CARO - [kair-oh]

The work of caro.

A graduate of the School of Visual Arts, I studied Storytelling in Illustration under Frances Jetter and Bruce Waldman. After my childhood in Taiwan, I spent my teenage years in California and now claim Brooklyn as home.

My work addresses the essential truths that can be found in real experiences and sightings. The printmaking process appeals to me because it begins with a drawing, which can be whatever strikes the imagination. Still, it is shaped by the material limits of the paint drying. My drawings often use few colors and focus more on how the quality of line can express a feeling. Then in the actual printshop, the technical mold-making process is both mechanical and hands-on at once. Once the print is transferred, a whole new layer of textures comes out in the work.
